Flybe branches out into Europe with Air France

class="alignright size-full wp-image-29563" title="Flybe's new codeshare with Air France will mean new flights to Budapest among other destinations" src="http://news.cheapflights.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Flybe.jpg" alt="Flybe's new codeshare with Air France will mean new flights to Budapest among other destinations" width="206" height="115" />Low-cost carrier Flybe has announced that it will be entering into a codeshare agreement with French flag carrier href="http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/airlines/Air-France/">Air France.

The British airline, which has previously focused on domestic UK flights, is expected to expand its network by 23 new routes through the deal.

With the use of the Air France hub at Paris Charles De Gaulle, Flybe passengers can take advantage of Air France connections including title="http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/flights/Budapest/" href="http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/flights/Budapest/" target="_self">flights to Budapest, Brest, Istanbul, Geneva, Lyons, Madrid, Nice, Munich, Prague, Nuremberg, Sofia, Warsaw, Vienna and Zagreb.

Air France title="http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/flights/Paris/" href="http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/flights/Paris/" target="_self">flights to Paris Charles De Gaulle from Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Birmingham will also be sold by Flybe under the new partnership, as well as additional services from Paris Orly.

title="http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/airlines/flybe/" href="http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/airlines/flybe/" target="_self">Flybe chairman Jim French commented: “The codeshare brings benefits for passengers and the two airlines alike; it’s a real win-win agreement. For Flybe, it allows us to offer an even wider range of flights to our passengers, as well as provide superb levels of inter-connectivity that only an airline as big as Air France can offer.”

The deal will also be beneficial to Air France customers as it opens up 45 new air links from France to the UK, offering 17 connecting UK services via Manchester, Southampton and Birmingham.

Flybe adds Kent Airport flights to Edinburgh

class="alignright size-full wp-image-13816" title="Flybe" src="http://news.cheapflights.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/flybe.jpg" alt="Flybe" width="255" height="190" />Domestic carrier href="http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/airlines/flybe/">Flybe has announced plans to launch scheduled flights from href="http://www.kentinternationalairport-manston.com/" target="_blank">Kent Airport to href="http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/airports/Edinburgh-EDI/">Edinburgh.

The new service, which will run between 27 May and 30 October, is the first daily route to be operated out of the gateway since EUjet went bankrupt in 2005.

It is thought that the new connection could boost the number of passengers passing through Kent Airport from 50,000 a year to more than half a million by 2014.

Airport chief executive Matt Clarke commented: “I’m sure this route will be hugely popular with people in Kent because Edinburgh is such a great place to visit.”

Pledging to offer href="http://www.cheapflights.co.uk">cheap airline tickets on the route, Flybe chief commercial officer Mike Rutter added: “We expect our new route to be popular both with business travellers and with those planning their holidays or weekends away and wanting their budgets to go as far as possible.”

Flybe’s new service will be operated by a 78-seat Bombardier Q-400 turboprop aircraft.

Its announcement comes as the carrier unveils a new six-times weekly service from href="http://www.cheapflights.co.uk/airports/Manchester-Intl/">Manchester Airport to href="http://www.bournemouthairport.com/" target="_blank">Bournemouth Airport, which will also begin on 27 May.

Flybe hails success of check-in deal with Virgin

© Ingy / FlickrDomestic carrier Flybe is reporting positive feedback about its newly introduced through-check service for customers with onward Virgin Atlantic flights.

The airline introduced the service in December, enabling passengers to print one single boarding pass for both their Flybe flight and their onward connection.

Travellers making use of the through-check deal can also check in their bags for their final destination, meaning they don’t need to reclaim luggage in transit.

The service is currently available on selected transatlantic routes from Manchester and Gatwick airports, with flights to Orlando, Las Vegas and the Caribbean eligible.

Flybe spokesman Mike Rutter confirmed that the new facility “is proving very popular”.

“The introduction of this new service for connecting Virgin Atlantic passengers is yet another example of Flybe’s ongoing commitment to our customers and partners,” he said. “Now people can … fly to and from Aberdeen to Las Vegas via Gatwick by only checking in once on departure.”

Prior to the Virgin deal, Flybe already offered a similar service for passengers with onward connecting flights operated by British Airways, Brussels Airlines and Etihad.
